    Patti Prairie, CEO of Brighter Planet, has over three decades of intrapreneurship starting new businesses and revitalizing under-performing ones at IBM, American Express, BankBoston, and a host of Fortune 500 clients. She was tapped in the fall of 2006 to become an entrepreneur at Brighter Planet and to bring to life the embryonic concept conceived in a college classroom for a credit card with environmental rewards.

    Today Brighter Planet finds surprising sustainability solutions in the world's flows of data and money, engineering them into scalable science-based technologies. With over 150,000 customers and 1.6 million carbon calculations under its belt, Brighter Planet helps its customers meet the 21st century’s urgent climate and resource challenges.

    The Brighter Planet credit and debit cards have become the leading environmental card program in the country, Brighter Planet's personal footprint calculator is arguably the best in the world, and Brighter Planet's carbon modeling web services are a new class of business sustainability software. Patti and her team have garnered high praise including Discovery Channel Treehugger's 2010 Small Business of the Year.

    Patti's prior ventures at IBM ranged from developing fault-tolerant computing for data-intensive rocket science applications, to forging strategic alliances for mid-range computers, to helping build IBM Management Consulting into a mainstay of the company's services strategy. At American Express, she ran information technology for corporate cards, small business services, and travel. At Beneficial Management, she spearheaded comprehensive re-engineering of core loan office businesses. At BankBoston, she managed small business, middle markets, and private bank. She's analyzed and published best practices for information technology in large companies, and founded a graduate program in design automation.

    Andy co-founded Brighter Planet in 2005 and continues to design and integrate its products and services. Andy has been chief of staff to political consultant Joe Trippi, personal assistant to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and a member of Howard Dean's 2004 presidential campaign web team. A long-time technologist, he is also an Eagle Scout.

    Seamus joined in 2007 to work on Brighter Planet's technology platform. Coordinating with partners and best-in-class service providers, he manages a diverse ecosystem of server deployments and data security arrangements that provides financial-grade service to Brighter Planet's clients. With a background in computer science, he also contributes code for the production systems that drive Brighter Planet's credit card and carbon middleware offerings. Seamus studied anthropology and computer science at Princeton University. Before Brighter Planet, Seamus worked at Tata Consultancy Services.

    Robbie joined Brighter Planet in 2007 to manage its event-marketing program. In his current role he identifies business opportunities for Brighter Planet and oversees its network of for-profit and non-profit partners. Before joining Brighter Planet he was a Step It Up 2007 National Co-Coordinator, helping organize the largest day of climate action in US history with over 1400 simultaneous rallies nationwide. Prior to that he was a GIS analyst for the Greenbelt Alliance, where he developed plans for open space in the San Francisco bay area. He is a Middlebury College graduate.

    Ian is responsible for the data and calculations that underlie Brighter Planet's products and services. Before joining the team in 2008, he upgraded Clean Air-Cool Planet's Campus Carbon Calculator, the leading emissions inventory tool for colleges and universities, and helped organize a national grassroots day of climate action.

    Matt researches and models greenhouse gas emissions, performs carbon inventories and accounting, and identifies and analyzes carbon offset projects. His experience prior to joining Brighter Planet includes environmental research for businesses, non-profits, and government agencies in the fields of climate change and wildlife biology.

    Bio

    Nancy establishes and delivers Brighter Planet’s financial management and accounting, financial reporting, and oversees personnel benefits, policies, and organizational development. Prior to running her own full service accounting services business with various clients, she was the accounting manager and controller for services companies. She was also the business manager of an accounting firm, responsible for the administrative and internal accounting department.

    Nancy is passionate about helping small companies grow. With many years of management experience and a strong background in accounting, she developed a great appreciation for numbers and for customer service. She received her Associates Degree in Business Management and, taking night courses the past several years as she pursued her accounting profession, recently completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.

    Derek helps engineer Brighter Planet's client-facing and back-end systems and ensures that every bit of code written passes rigorous tests.

    Before joining Brighter Planet in early 2010, Derek wrote software for a real-time email archiving system, a voice-integrated nursing home documentation system, a USPS mail sorting system, and various public websites. Derek holds a B.S. in computer science from Iowa State University with a minor in German and special coursework in distributed and parallel computing.

    President, Crow Hill Capital, LTD and Crow Hill Ventures, LTD. Both companies, founded in 1992, provide investment services to a limited number of high net worth individuals, families, and their foundations. He is a co-founder of Acorn Capital Group, and serves on the boards of Vermont Public Radio and SBElectronics of Barre, Vermont. He is an ex-officio board member of The Boys and Girls Club of Rutland County, Vermont.

    Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and Global Director of Marketing, Sales and Client Service, Acadian Asset Management. Acadian currently manages nearly $70b. He co-founded the firm in 1987 and, as a member of the Executive and Operating Committees, he is responsible for much of the general strategic management of the firm. Before joining Acadian, he was the assistant treasurer of Thermo Electron Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, where he was responsible for investments, bank relations, corporate finance, project finance, real estate and leasing. A graduate of Middlebury College, he is Chairman Emeritus of its Board of Trustees and has served on the boards of several emerging companies.

    Kaj Jensen

    Bio

    Senior Vice President for Public Policy, Bank of America. He has worked in the financial services industry since the late 1990s in the risk management and public policy arena. His current responsibilities at Bank of America include helping to oversee the bank's environmental initiatives and its $20 billion commitment to lending, investing, and the development of financial products and services promoting environmentally sustainable business. Kaj supports the bank's Environmental Council and executive management on environmental issues and works with various business lines and internal staff on issues relating to policy and product development, communication, philanthropy and maintaining relationships with outside stakeholders.

    Prior to his tenure at Bank of America, Kaj began his career as a geologist working in the mining industry throughout the US and in areas of Latin America and later worked as a consultant on environmental issues. Kaj holds a B.A. from Colby College, an M.A. from the University of New Haven and has served as an adjunct professor at the New England College of Finance.

    Nicco Mele

    Bio

    President, EchoDitto and a leading internet strategist. He was Governor Howard Dean's presidential campaign webmaster. Born in West Africa to foreign service parents, Nicco has broad experience working with NGOs and non-profits, including as webmaster at Common Cause and at the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, in addition to his time as producer of the Shadow Conventions website and live streaming webcasts during the 2000 presidential election cycle. As part of Gov. Dean’s presidential campaign, Nicco managed technical, functional and design aspects of Gov. Dean’s national web presence. In December of 2003, he was named one of America's “best and brightest” by Esquire magazine.

    Jon Isham

    Bio

    Co-founder, Brighter Planet and Professor of Economics at Middlebury College. His collaborative work with Middlebury students and others focuses on building the climate-change movement, with classes such as "Focus the Nation," "Building the New Climate Movement," and "The Scientific and Institutional Challenges of Becoming Carbon Neutral." His book Ignition: What you Can Do to Fight Global Warming and Spark a Movement, co-edited with Sissel Waage, was published in 2007. A graduate of Harvard College and a returned Peace Corps volunteer, he received an MA in International Studies from the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Maryland.

    Deborah Baxley is a Principal with Capgemini's Financial Services Global Business Unit. An international retail banking consultant, recognized expert in the industry, creator of growth strategies for new and existing markets and 30-year IBM veteran with more than 15 years experience consulting to banks. She has in-depth experience in retail financial services, mobile payments, and credit cards. As former leader of IBM's 400-person global credit card practice of services, sales, development and research professionals from 15 countries who continuously collaborated on issues and insights for the credit card industry, she performed strategy work in 14 countries for top banks. She advised companies on product direction and competitive positioning, delivering in up to $20M in new revenue or $50M in operating cost savings, including MasterCard, Bank of America, Visa, and American Express. Widely recognized for insights on the future of retail payments, she chaired the Smart Card Alliance Contactless and Mobile Payments Council, and co-chaired the 2009 Alliance Payments Council Summit. She is a frequent keynote speaker and prolific author on topics of mobile and advanced payments innovation, having authored 15 published articles and white papers, most recently "Proximity Mobile Payments Business Scenarios: Research Report on Stakeholder Perspectives," Smart Card Alliance Contactless Payments Council white paper.

    Jon Haber

    Jon Haber is President of Cascade Strategy, with more than 30 years experience in communications, organizational leadership, politics, government, and law.

    Previously, Jon was CEO of the American Association for Justice (formerly, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America). There, he envisioned and led the turnaround, repositioning and revitalization of one of the nation’s most powerful political and professional associations. Jon increased AAJ’s influence and stature by reengineering it into a forward-thinking, proactive operation. Drawing on his extensive experience with the media, campaigns and politics, Jon conceived and led the change of the organization’s name and developed a new communications and web-based operation to reframe the debate about civil justice issues.

    Prior to joining AAJ, Jon was senior partner at Fleishman-Hillard, the world’s largest public relations, public affairs and marketing communications company. At Fleishman, Jon worked with technology companies and start-ups on strategic planning and corporate communications.

    Jon served in senior leadership positions with U.S. Senators Patrick Leahy and Dianne Feinstein and in the Clinton Administration. He is a veteran of five presidential campaigns, including Ted Kennedy (1980), Walter Mondale (1984), Richard Gephardt (1988), Bill Clinton (1992) and Howard Dean (2004). He also practiced law in California. Jon is currently teaching public affairs for graduate students at Georgetown University.

    Timothy Juliani

    Timothy Juliani is Director of Corporate Engagement at the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (formerly the Pew Center on Global Climate Change), which was named in 2012 by the University of Pennsylvania as the top global environmental think tank. He directs the C2ES Business Environmental Leadership Council (BELC), a multi-sectoral, invitation-only advisory council comprised of more than 40 major corporations with combined revenue of $2 trillion and over 4 million employees. The BELC is the largest U.S.-based group of companies devoted to climate and energy-related policy and solutions. C2ES works together with these leaders to promote collaboration, sharing of best practices, policy discussion and direct engagement.

    In addition to his work with the BELC, Tim has co-developed and implemented the new Climate Leadership Awards and conference with EPA, which is a legacy to EPA’s former Climate Leaders program. He is also leading a C2ES scenario planning analysis of climate and energy policy pathways to 2025, and has engaged in the Center’s policy work on carbon markets. He has spoken on corporate sustainability and climate change related issues across the United States, in Europe, Africa and Australia. In addition to C2ES/Pew Center, Tim has also worked at the U.S. EPA to develop a voluntary corporate partnership program to reduce high global warming potential gases.

    Tim earned his M.A. in International Economics, Energy and Environment at The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, D.C. During that time, he worked as an independent consultant, writing an analysis of energy cooperation within Southeast Asia for USAID. In addition to his M.A. from Johns Hopkins, he completed a post-baccalaureate program at the University of Washington, and graduated with a B.A. in Religion, magna cum laude with Highest Honors, and a minor in Medieval History from Middlebury College in Vermont. He currently resides in Arlington County, Virginia, where he serves on the County’s Community Energy and Sustainability Task Force.

    Executive Director, 1% For the Planet. Terry Kellogg has worked at the intersection of business and the environment for thirteen years. His focus areas have included forestry issues at the Vermont Natural Resources Council, mining at the Greater Yellowstone Coalition, and renewable energy at Green Mountain Energy. Under his leadership as Director of Environmental Stewardship at Timberland, they reduced their carbon footprint by more than fifteen percent, adopted widespread use of water based adhesives, and launched programs in green building and organic cotton. The company also pioneered several environmental assessment tools, performance management, and product rating systems. In March 2005 he joined 1% Percent for the Planet and helped grow its membership base from 92 to more than 700 companies. He has a BA in Economics from Midlebury College and a MBA and a Master of Environmental Management from Yale University. He serves of the Board of the Northern Forest Center and as an advisor to Climate Counts, the Clark Group, and eQuilibrium.

    President, Ceres. Ceres is the leading U.S. coalition of investors and environmental leaders working to improve corporate environmental, social and governance practices. She also directs the Investor Network on Climate Risk (INCR), an alliance that coordinates U.S. investor responses to the financial risks and opportunities posed by climate change.

    Ms. Lubber is the recipient of the Skoll Social Entrepreneur Award. Before coming to Ceres, Ms. Lubber was the Regional Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and CEO of Green Century Capital Management, an investment firm managing environmentally screened mutual funds. She was recently voted one of “The 100 Most Influential People in Corporate Governance” by Directorship Magazine.

    Bill McKibben

    Bio

    Bill McKibben is the author of a dozen books about the environment, beginning with The End of Nature in 1989, which is regarded as the first book for a general audience on climate change. He is a founder of the grassroots climate campaign 350.org, which has coordinated 15,000 rallies in 189 countries since 2009. Time Magazine called him "the planet's best green journalist" and the Boston Globe said in 2010 that he was "probably the country's most important environmentalist." Schumann Distinguished Scholar at Middlebury College, he holds honorary degrees from a dozen colleges, including the Universities of Massachusetts and Maine, the State University of New York, and Whittier and Colgate Colleges. In 2011 he was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

    Founding Management Team, Capital One. He is an expert in helping companies grow. In addition to his role as Founder and Managing Director of NFF Capital Partners, he was founder of North Hill Ventures. During his seven-year tenure as head of strategy/new business development for Capital One, earnings grew by more than ten-fold. The bulk of his time now is dedicated to forming a capital market that serves the nonprofit sector. Prior to 1994, he was a principal at Mercer Management Consulting, Inc. and participated in a wide range of strategy consulting assignments. He earned a B.S. in Physics from Harvard University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

    Co-Founder and Coordinator, Energy Action Coalition. Energy Action has brought together over 45 diverse, youth-led organizations into a joint campaign to catalyze the transition to a clean energy economy called The Campus Climate Challenge. Billy was a 2004 Brower Youth Award, 2005 Rolling Stone magazine “Climate Hero”, Mother Jones magazine's 2006 "Student Activist of the Year", and was recently named Fellow by Ashoka, the global association of the world's leading social entrepreneurs. A co-author of the report New Energy for Campuses, a guide for colleges and universities on how to cost-effectively cut their greenhouse gas emissions, Billy works to train students and equip them with the tools they need to implement local climate solutions. Billy has taken four years off from Yale, where he was co-chair of the Yale Student Environmental Coalition and was majoring in Ethics, Politics & Economics. Born in New York City, Billy now lives in Flagstaff, AZ.

    Partner Emeritus, Advanced Technology Ventures. He joined ATV in 1986 as the first General Partner devoted to focusing on healthcare investments. His 25 years of executive experience in operations and finance helped guide more than a dozen emerging companies into becoming successful industry leaders, such as Cytyc Corp, developer of ThinPrep® pap smear screening system; Novoste Corp, a surgical device company; and CollaGenex Pharmaceuticals, Inc, a specialty pharmaceutical company. Prior to 1986, he held executive positions at Honeywell International and its predecessor companies. As Corporate Vice President of Allied Signal, he directed the task force that led the highly successful integration of Allied Corp. and Bendix Corp. He holds an M.B.A. from New York University and a B.A. from Middlebury College.

    Michael Silberman

    Bio

    Michael Silberman is the Global Director of Digital Innovation at Greenpeace. He leads a digital mobilization lab that works with Greenpeace and its allies in 42 countries to envision, test, and roll out creative new means of communicating, organizing, and fundraising online.

    A senior online campaigns strategist, Silberman specializes in online organizing and grassroots citizen engagement. He is a frequent writer and speaker on the effective use of technology for converting online activity into real-world action. Silberman chairs the Web of Change conference, the premier annual gathering for leading thinkers and campaigners at the intersection of technology and social change.

    Silberman is a co-founder of EchoDitto, a digital agency that empowers leading organizations to have a greater impact through the creative use of new technologies. As a Partner at EchoDitto, Silberman led a team that designed participatory campaigns and built award-winning tools for clients to enable individuals to make the world a better place. Clients included the UN World Food Program (WFP), the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), and the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA).

    Silberman cut his teeth on digital organizing and campaigning as the National Meetup Director for Howard Dean’s presidential run in 2004, where he lead an online organizing team that regularly mobilized more than 189,000 local volunteers in over 1,200 cities worldwide. He also served as the 1Sky climate campaign's Internet Director during its first year, where he implemented a successful nationwide internet organizing, communications, and fundraising strategy.

    Michael also serves on the board of Planet Forward and is affiliated with the New Organizing Institute and The Engage Network. Silberman graduated on skis with a B.A. from Middlebury College.

    Professor, Vermont Law School and former Dean of the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. From 1993 to 1999, Gus Speth served as administrator of the United Nations Development Programme and chair of the UN Development Group. Prior to this, he was founder and president of the World Resources Institute; professor of law at Georgetown University; chairman of the U.S. Council on Environmental Quality; and senior attorney and co-founder, Natural Resources Defense Council. Throughout his career, he has provided leadership and entrepreneurial initiatives to combat environmental degradation. His many awards include National Wildlife Federation's Resources Defense Award, Special Recognition Award from the "Society for International Development, Lifetime Achievement Award of Environmental Law Institute, and Blue Planet Prize. Publications include "Red Sky at Morning: America and the Crisis of the Global Environment"; "Worlds Apart: Globalization and the Environment"; and other journals and books. He holds a B.A. from Yale University, an M.Litt. from Oxford University, and a J.D. from Yale University.

    Betsy Taylor

    Co-founder and President of Board of Directors, 1Sky Campaign. During 2006 and 2007, she worked as an advisor to the Energy Foundation, the Garrison Institute, the Quixote Foundation, and several philanthropists concerned about climate change. From 1998 until early 2006, Betsy served as founder and President of the Center for a New American Dream, where she grew this sustainability group to a staff of twenty-five and a grassroots base of 100,000 citizens. Prior to founding the Center, Ms. Taylor spent twenty years as a leader in the philanthropic and non-profit sector. In her role as executive director of the Stern Fund, Ottinger Foundation and later the Merck Family Fund, Betsy played a leadership role in supporting successful campaigns to promote energy conservation, community building and economic justice. She is the author of three books, appears frequently in the national media, and is on the board of the Center for a New American Dream, CERES, Town Creek Foundation, Ottinger Foundation and the Garrison Institute.
