The average American generates nearly 2 pounds of glass waste each week, and recycles a piddly 3 percent of it. Manufacturing glass takes a lot of energy and generates a lot of emissions, while using recycled glass is cheaper and more efficient. Glass items like jars can be re-used at home for storing stuff, but wine and soda bottles aren’t so readily useful and are better recycled.
