Farmers’ markets and community-supported agriculture programs let you support local agriculture and get fresh, local foods. You can often find things that would be hard to get in a supermarket, and you can ask about the details of how your food was grown or prepared. Just remember that the farther you (and the farmers) have to drive, the more likely it is that you’re negating any climate benefit. The best is to arrange your errands so you’ll be passing the market or farmstand anyway. And if you don’t eat all the food your CSA delivers, from a climate perspective you’re probably better off shopping at the supermarket.
How do you use farmstands, farmers’ markets, and CSA shares to reduce your carbon cookprint?
