As the financial and environmental costs of energy use continue to rise, it’s only natural to assess more carefully which activities are truly necessary. For most of us it’s the natural assumption to travel and meet somebody in person, but as technological alternatives improve that’s increasingly unneeded, for personal trips and especially for business trips.

The advent of free online voice and video conferencing and high tech virtual conference rooms (as well as increased congestion of roads and airports) makes it possible to hold remote meetings with much more ease and economy than travel, and with much more intimacy and connection than old school phone calls.
