Public education is one of the biggest contributors to our shared services emissions. Luckily, it is also one of the most participatory. The US Census Bureau reports that eighty million Americans are are enrolled students, and of those, the overwhelming majority attend public schools. Schools are among the best opportunities to reduce our shared services footprint, because so many of us are already directly or indirectly engaged in the public education system. As a student or parent, it is easy to harness your existing relationships with classmates, teachers, and administrators to mobilize conservation. Look over the other tips on our site, think about the ways they could apply to your school, and start working with people in your school community to make changes big and small that lighten your school’s impact on climate change. If you’re not a student, talk with friends and family members who are about ways to mobilize school emissions reductions.
