Voting is one of our most basic and most powerful tools for forging a new energy future. Our elected representatives not only have direct control over our shared public services, they also play an important role in guiding the growth and direction of our economy. Every cog in the government machine, from the Homeowners Association to the Marines Corps to the Forest Service, makes decisions every day that affect our shared services emissions. Educate yourself about the ballot choices, and vote—not just for presidents, but also for state referendums, for homeowners’ association presidents, for city council members. And then raise your voice, to let your representatives know you will hold them accountable for the climate impacts of their decisions.
Here are some resources to help inform your choices at the ballot box:
- Project Vote Smart
- The League of Conservation Voters
- US Congressional voting records
- The Pew Center on Global Climate Change
