His Brighter Planet responsibilities include chairing the Project Selection Committee and engaging environmental thought leaders. His collaborative work with Middlebury students and others focuses on building the climate-change movement, with classes such as ‘Focus the Nation’, ‘Building the New Climate Movement’ and ‘The Scientific and Institutional Challenges of Becoming Carbon Neutral’. book "Ignition: What you Can Do to Fight Global Warming and Spark a Movement", co-edited with Sissel Waage, was published in 2007. A graduate of Harvard College and a returned Peace Corps volunteer, he received an MA in International Studies from the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Maryland.
