Residences
The residences component of your footprint covers emissions from houses, apartments, and mobile homes. It includes your share of the total emissions from any residences you add to your profile—for example if you live with three other people we assign you a quarter of the total emissions. Residences emit greenhouse gases when they burn natural gas, fuel oil, and other fossil fuels for space heating, water heating, and cooking. Emissions also come from dirty electricity and air conditioning leaks. -

Lodgings
The lodgings component of your footprint covers emissions from hotels, dormitories, and other lodging types. We're working on adding hotels and dormitories—for now we assign all Americans an equal share of the total emissions from these and rare lodging types like orphanages and convents.
